Human skull recovered in the Arizona desert

We were patrolling an area known to be heavily used by Cartel smugglers and found a human skull and other human remains.  It was close to a utility maintenance road going up through the mountains.  The remains were scattered - likely by animals.  They had been there for at least two years. 

This person had been decapitated.  Normally the head and spine are not together on a dead body.  The clean cut indicates the head and spine had been severed intentionally.  Someone chopped this persons head off. After working with homicide from the local Sheriff’s office, other parts of the remains were located in the same general area.
